FLYING SQUIRREL REMOVAL

Our History

Flying squirrels may seem small and harmless, but they can cause serious damage to your home if left unchecked. If you suspect a flying squirrel infestation, prompt action is critical to prevent nesting, structural damage, and health risks.

Why Flying Squirrels Are a Problem

Flying squirrels can create a variety of issues in your home, including:

  • Structural damage – chewing holes in roofline builder’s gaps, soffits, eaves, cedar siding, attic fans, roof boots, gable vents, chimneys, and under drip edges.

  • Electrical damage – chewing on wiring.

  • Health risks – leaving urine and droppings that carry diseases and parasites such as rabies, salmonella, fleas, and ticks.

  • Noise and disturbances – scratching sounds at night and disruption of sleep.

  • Allergy triggers – exposure to droppings and urine can exacerbate allergies.

Flying Squirrels in the Home

Flying squirrels are nocturnal, so most homeowners first notice them by hearing scratching noises at night. Once inside, they typically nest in attics but may also inhabit chimneys, wall cavities, and, in rare cases, basements. Insulation provides ideal nesting material, making removal difficult.

A female flying squirrel can have 3–5 babies at a time. Their urine and droppings produce strong odors and can quickly spread diseases through ventilation systems. If a squirrel dies inside your home, it can create even worse odor problems and attract insects and parasites.

Our Humane Removal Process

  1. Inspection: Call Southern Wildlife Removal and one of our trained technicians will perform a thorough inspection to locate entry points.

  2. One-Way Exit Tunnels: We install custom one-way exit tunnels that allow flying squirrels to leave safely while preventing re-entry.

  3. Animal Proofing: We seal holes and reinforce potential entry points to keep squirrels from returning. If a squirrel re-enters within one year due to our work, we’ll return and fix it at no additional cost.

  4. No Poisons: We do not use poisons. Poisoning can create health hazards for your family and pets and is far less effective than our humane exit tunnels. Our method safely removes the animals without harming them.
