Flying squirrels can create a variety of issues in your home, including:
Flying squirrels are nocturnal, so most homeowners first notice them by hearing scratching noises at night. Once inside, they typically nest in attics but may also inhabit chimneys, wall cavities, and, in rare cases, basements. Insulation provides ideal nesting material, making removal difficult.
A female flying squirrel can have 3–5 babies at a time. Their urine and droppings produce strong odors and can quickly spread diseases through ventilation systems. If a squirrel dies inside your home, it can create even worse odor problems and attract insects and parasites.
